Spanish railway workers went on a general strike on Wednesday that led to the cancellation of 707 trains across the country.

The strike was called by the General Confederation of Labour (CGT) union, which is protesting against the state railway company Renfe over lack of employees, low wages and long working hours.

The railway workers demand structural reforms.

The strike affected a large number of passengers, especially in populous cities like Madrid and Barcelona, as many people are intending to return or go for vacation.

CGT union has announced that its workers will also observe strike on Aug. 14, 30 and Sept 1.
