UN confirms Hudaydah deal between Yemen gov’t, rebels

Yemen’s warring parties have reached an agreement on cease-fire in the port city of Hudaydah, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres confirmed on Thursday.

Guterres said that the agreement covered the deployment of the neutral forces, as well as the large-scale cease-fire in the region.

Earlier, Houthi rebels announced a cease-fire deal with the Yemeni government and withdrawal from Hudaydah during UN-brokered peace talks in Sweden.

The UN-brokered talks had begun in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, on Dec. 6 in an effort to end the 4-year military conflict in Yemen.
